Things are changing in town and country, and more and more on the water as well: climate protection is becoming increasingly important, and boat manufacturers are increasingly working on alternative propulsion systems. There are regular reports on float about these new approaches, be it Candela’s foiling e-boats, X Shore’s planing boats or Delphia’s electrically powered cruisers for inland waterways.
But the infrastructure is also part of the mobility revolution. Current developments on the road foreshadow what lies ahead on the water. Within the past year, tens of thousands of public and private charging stations have been built in cities and rural areas. And many more must follow to make the hundred percent switch possible. And in the maritime environment? That’s where the work is just getting started.

Where better to discuss this challenge for the boating industry than in a district that is specifically addressing the mobility revolution? To kick off this year’s Boat & Fun Inwater in Werder, float is therefore hosting the first Electric Summit there on August 24. The event is reserved for trade visitors. We will report on the results on float. The key players from the water sports industry, politics and science will come together here to talk about electromobility on the water in the region. What kind of tourism on the water do we want in 2035?
The joint water sports area of Brandenburg and Mecklenburg Western Pomerania is the largest in Europe – as if made for a pilot project for electro-mobility on the water. float has already reported that such a model region for electric boats and the associated charging infrastructure could be created in the Berlin-Brandenburg water sports region. And the fact that the first energy-autonomous marina is to be built in Berlin also speaks for itself.
Inland district has ambitious plans
In Werder, we now expect “butter to the fishes”, which means plain talk about the plans. The region has recently established itself as an inland water tourism destination and is forging ahead with ambitious plans: “We want to develop the most attractive area, together with Mecklenburg Western Pomerania,” says Julia Pollok, project manager of the regional Water-tourism Initiative North Brandenburg” (WIN).

WIN is involved in the “Working Group on Charging Infrastructure near the Water”. In the working group, Brandenburg Economic Development brings together companies and know-how from the fields of charging infrastructure, shipbuilding and chartering, as well as scientific expertise from the Fraunhofer Institute.
Electric boats for testing on site
What will the Electric Summit offer? The symposium brings together key players from the water sports industry, politics and science to advance electromobility on water in the Berlin-Brandenburg region. Representatives from the Wirtschaftsverband Wassersport, tourism marketing Brandenburg and the Potdsdam chamber of commerce, among others, will speak on two panels of 75 minutes each.
From the industry, relevant shipyards and providers of charging infrastructure are on site. The boat builders have also brought several latest generation electric boats, which will be presented during and after the event. Among others, the Delphia 10 Loungetop with Torqeedo Deep Blue, the Aries i50 with Molabo and the Terhi 385 with Avator are ready for test drives.
